Today was my first day doing this maneuver. My instructor was teaching me differently. He said to only watch my driver mirror and when I see my trailer drifting, turn my wheel in that direction. However, I didn't know WHEN or HOW MUCH to turn the damn wheel, nor did I know when to turn it back in the other direction to get it back on track. This way seems much easier because he's explaining both of the points I needed help with and it's easy to both understand and remember. Looks like I'll have to try this way.

Same issue today as most in the thread. Instructor was just barking orders which wasnt helping not to mention he kept having a fit cause i wouldnt let all the way off the clutch but the full speed of reverse was too fast for my first time especially when theres no low/high reverse option on a 7 speed. The video definitely helps a lot because he is useless in explaining stuff so hopefully tomorrow will be better.

drove a 53 foot tractor and trailer for the first time today and was having issues with straight backing I was over steering then was chasing my trailer this video helped me understand not to turn so much

Place your hand at 6 o'clock, if you want the trailer to go to the left , looking in your mirrors, push your hand left. Right for right.

Doing y'alls a favor here! OFFSET Procedure; 1. Pull forward, stay center between your lane's cones until you reach the end of the lane. 2. Once there, pull the steering wheel one full rotation to your side of the two lanes. Ex; If left, one left, if right, one right. 3. Back with steering wheel held in that position until middle lane cone disappears from the under the Plane mirror's Convex mirror; this view is from the mirror bracket closest lane to the middle lane. 4. Now, IMMEDIATE hard turn of the steering wheel to the opposite direction. Don't stop backing until the trailer rear tandem is aligned with the middle of the lane. 5. Now you would G.O.A.L.; ensure the path of the middle cone walking forward intersects with the trajectory of straightened trailer. Once confirmed; 6. Pull the steering wheel twice to the outer lane. 7. While backing, straighten your wheels until the rear tandem is aligned with the middle cone. 8. Once in the lane, hard direction lock pull of steering wheel into the inner/ middle lane. This will get the tractor back under the trailer. 8. Align truck with trailer as backing as you would a Straightback, but if not possible then pull forward and place vehicle in middle of lane before proper Straightbacking into the spot. Advice throughout all this; Remember CounterSteering avoid the Buckhead!

So do you really stop though? I was told you’re supposed to just keep going and not stop when you’re trailer is along with the cones because it messes up the flow of the truck.

Highly recommend this school, took class B course 3 days classroom 4 days yard training. You will pass the dmv test easily

I wish my school taught us this stuff. I'm here watching videos I'm 3 days in and I feel I should be working on this but no they don't start us in groups and start from the beginning. There's alot of ppl that are 4 weeks into the class so it's set up for parallel parking and yea im having issues. Sucks I paid cash for the school thinking was a good place but it's the worst school ever. The instructor sits inside and we never see him the other students trying to help as they learned from students. Plus the trucks are complete junk hoping the truck that's registered/ insured that is used for the road test is in better condition. I've been doing the pretrip on the one broken truck looking at it like my lights are all there not broken... the air intake is all tight bla bla. All the tires are tread depth no cracks bla bla besides the 3 that are missing like everything on it is broke so I'm pretending the entire time. It's missing a headlight, air intake, 3 tires and multiple other things but I guess I'm lucky to even have it. I'm just nervous what the next few weeks bring.
